Honoring Our Veterans

Honoring Our Veterans

Posted on January 28th, 2023.

Since 1938, Veterans Day has been recognized as a National Holiday to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. On October 8, 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower designated November 11, the day which marked Armistice Day and the end of World War I, as Veterans Day. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) acknowledges Veterans Day as “A celebration to honor America's Veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.”

Programs for Veterans

Benefits.gov would like to help connect active duty service members, Veterans, and their families to the many benefit programs offered by the Federal government. Our site houses information on over 65 programs from the VA and several more from other Federal agencies to support our nation’s Veterans. These programs include:

  • The Education and Career Counseling program helps Veterans assess vocational interests.
  • The Services and Aid for Blind Veterans program provides personal and social adjustment programs and medical or health-related services for eligible blinded Veterans.
  • The Veteran’s Pension program is a needs-based benefit paid to eligible wartime Veterans who meet certain age or non-service-connected disability requirements.

These are just three of the many programs offered to help support our Vets. You can browse the rest of these benefits in the Military: Active Duty and Veterans category. Also, be sure to read our article 5 Notable Programs for Military Veterans.
